Bishops Waltham Bridges & Steps

This project was carried out on behalf of Bishops Waltham Parish Council (BWPC) and consisted of improvements to several walking routes around new housing developments in Bishops Waltham.

The improvements included two new oak footbridges, access and drainage improvements, and a set of steps. The area where the steps were built was originally a muddy slope being used as an access point to an existing right of way. The steps now allow the residents to safely access the wooded path.

The bridges are single-span and made of green and air-dried oak, as well as anti-slip deck boards. To connect the bridges to the path, oak edge boards were installed to contain pathing material and create a ramp at each end with a gentle gradient. Using the same pathing gravel, the steps were infilled to create step tread.

The project has been successful and enables the new residents to be connected to the surrounding natural environment, walks and the local park.
